A bridal registry is a service offered by department stores to newlywed couples. This is a system that allows a couple to manage and keep track of the purchases of gifts for their wedding.

A Chicago-founded department store pioneered the institution of offering bridal registries as a service for newlywed couples. Since then, the concept has turned into a popular service of many department stores. This service is also offered by large home-improvement retailers.

The bridal registry begins with a list of items the couple wishes to receive as wedding gifts, made from the items available in the participating stores. This list is then provided to their wedding guests.

There are different ways of implementing this service that allow participating stores to provide the couple’s wish list to their guests and to assure effective management of the wedding gifts. Some registries track more details than others.

Each participating department store updates its list as a gift is purchased, and the item is then removed from the couple’s wish list. This prevents the guests from giving the couple more than one of the items on the list.

Bridal registries can be greatly efficient for the couple to be married. It is also convenient for guests who usually have a difficult time making a decision about what to buy for the newlyweds.

Bridal registries, though very popular, are not always well-received. Some people perceive it as a modern practice done in bad taste. This is especially true when it comes to older, more traditional guests. Soliciting gifts negates the traditional notions on gift-giving that many people still value so dearly.

The use of bridal registries also does away with some traditional gift-giving concepts such as “being thankful for whatever you receive” and the surprise element, which many still enjoy. Moreover, many people view bridal registries as a type of competition because prices of the presents are known. This also has led to the more controversial practice of couples asking guests to give money instead of presents.

As the wedding date draws near, the reality of the decision you are about to make becomes clearer. Not only are you marrying this person, whom you love, but you are also inheriting their children. This is the beginning of a stepfamily.

What you need to be prepared for is that stepfamilies are busy! There are many people with many schedules, heading in many directions. Life gets hectic. That is a reality. Determination is a necessary ingredient to make them succeed.

As a couple you will need to be determined to carve out time together and then follow through on it. Many obstacles will get in the way. This is a new marriage after all, and you do require time to be together and grow as a married couple. Maintaining that relationship as well as helping it to mature needs to be a priority or the entire family will disintegrate.

You must also be determined to show your children that you have not forgotten them. Make time to carve out with them as well. I don’t just mean as a big happy family. I mean you and your kids only. It’s not unusual for biological families to split up and do different things together. A mom and daughter may go shopping while the father and son go to a football game. You don’t always have to include your new spouse or the entire stepfamily. In fact, at the beginning of a stepfamily this type of separation is essential. A solid stepfamily is developed over time, not instantly created after the wedding. As time passes and everyone grows closer together, more shared activities are developed and will be accepted.

Sound exhausting? Sure it does! That’s a lot of needs to meet. We haven’t even discussed your own! While it is a lot of effort, the rewards will include a strong, healthy marriage which will help stabilize your stepfamily as it continues to grow and mature.

Will you choose something that you always wear, or are you prepared to try something different, perhaps a romantic scent? Read on to find out how you can create your signature scent to see you through the entire day.

There are some gorgeous perfumes available, take some time to try a few and find the one that is right for you. You could even make a day of it. Grab a couple of girlfriends and visit your favourite department store, together you can have a play around with many of the fragrances. It is probably worth doing a couple of times, as different weather or different seasons might change your mood. Some of the romantic scents you might like to try include:-

Plan a little time to luxuriate in a nice warm bath or stand under a warm running shower. Then reach for the wash cloth soaked with your bath gel, inhale its beautiful perfume and then lather yourself from chin to toes, creating the first layer of your signature.

When you have finished your bath or shower, pat yourself dry with a beautifully thick bath towel and whilst your pores are still open, apply the next layer of your perfume, the body lotion. Using it as your moisturiser apply it all over, including neck, arms, legs, torso and even your feet. Now with the foundation set you are ready to meet the rest of the challenges of getting ready.

Last but not least the perfume. You should plan to put this on no less than 10 minutes before you slip on your dress, to give your perfume enough time to absorb into the skin and dry on the surface. You DON’T want to stain your dress! Spray or dab the perfume on all your pulse zones, behind your ears, on your neck, behind your knees and on your wrists. Do not rub the perfume in, as this will bruise the scent. Just put it on and give it time to dry. With the final layer done, your signature scent is ready!

This will probably last you the entire day and through the evening, but if you wish to freshen up a little, plan to dab on a wee extra just before your reception.
